As The Snowmen Play

Innocence in one of her age is a rare gift
Unfortunate that so many wait to abuse it
A trusting soul she would follow blindly
Desperately in need of someone to take her under wing.

Sheltered her whole life there is so much that is new
Like the very first party she had ever attended
Nervous upon entering she knew not what to expect
Robbed of her voice when introduced to their "game".

White, sparkling lines of powder on a glistening mirror
They hand her a straw and demonstrate for her
These actions cause her nervousness to escalate into terror
Now it is she who is handed the mirror of powder.

Aware of demanding glances she knows she dare not refuse
Taking up her straw she performs her task as shown
The burning in her nose is followed by a buzzing in her head
Their idea of fun is one she is not familiar or agreeable with.

Sickly aware of their loaded glances and cutting banter
She reluctantly joins in on their game
As the night wears on they ply her with more
This party is nothing like she had expectedit to be.

Wanting to leave but they urge her to stay
She must do one more line to close her night
Feeling too ill to resist or argue she retrieves her straw
Pressing them to agree that there'd be no more.

Aware immediately that something is wrong
Fire before confined to her nose now spreads throughout her chest
Blood roars loudly in her ears as the agony worsens
Soundlessly screaming for her "friends" to help her.

She feels herself falling and then...nothing
Her vision slowly fades as the wings of death claim her
Originally being an experiment into curiousity
It had suddenly turned fatal in the merest of seconds.

An innocent, new to this dark side of life
Now lies carelessly crushed like a broken and unwanted doll
She had trusted these new friends to keep her safe
But friendship soon turns to greed when the powder is in play.

So another pure and innocent is lost among the shuffle of statistics
As the snowmen hunt up another new toy to play with.
